8 Times Netflix Was Your Bad Night's Saving Grace

Ah, Netflix. It is always there for us. Whether you are looking to unwind or find something to cheer you up after a long night, you can count on Netflix to have something for you.

1. Problem: You had a fight with your best friend

Solution: One Tree Hill: Peyton and Brooke have one of the best friendships of all time. Through ups and downs (and psycho kidnappers who pretend to be long-lost family members), these girls always have each other. So you had a fight with a friend. If she’s a true friend, you guys will get through this, and things will be back to normal before you know it.

2. Problem: You embarrassed yourself in front of everyone

Solution: How I Met Your Mother: Anyone remember Robin Sparkles? We all have embarrassing stories from our past, but who knows embarrassment better than a former Canadian pop start whose hit single was about going to the mall? If you haven’t seen this throwback video to Robin’s past, look it up now. It will change your life (or at least hopefully your night).

3. Problem: You found out your SO cheated

Solution: Friends: When someone you’re into hooks up with someone else, it hurts. Even if you were “on a break” or hadn’t officially defined the relationship, you don’t want to see someone you care about with someone else. Rachel, Monica, Phoebe, Ross, Chandler, and Joey will always be there for you, because how do you watch an episode without laughing out loud?

4. Problem: Someone tried to bring you down

Solution: Mean Girls: “Cady Heron, you are a mean girl.” Unfortunately mean girls aren’t just in movies. Sometimes you are going to encounter people that take pleasure in other people’s misery, and you have to learn to brush it off. A night spent with Karen trying to explain how her boobs can tell when it’s raining (because of her ESPN) might be just what you need.

5. Problem: You broke up with your boyfriend

Solution: New Girl: Who could forget when Jess first moved in with the guys because she had broken up with her boyfriend? She sat and watched Dirty Dancing on repeat and sobbed into a pile of tissues. And if you think that would work for you, Dirty Dancing is also on Netflix. But a good laugh with Zooey Deschanel will definitely turn your night around.

6. Problem: You drunk called/texted your ex

Solution: 21 & Over: In college, you are inevitably going to have the “Why did I do that?” kind of night. You will make mistakes. You will do things that you normally wouldn’t, and you will have to deal with the consequences. So calling or texting your ex wasn’t the best idea, but it happened, and you have to move on. The best thing to do in this situation is to realize that there are reasons that the relationship ended. It can be tempting to revisit old feelings, but in the end, it is probably not going to change anything. In 21 & Over, three friends learn that part of growing up is making mistakes, and those mistakes can help you mature and discover who you really want to be.

7. Problem: You saw your crush with someone else

Solution: Gilmore Girls: Who else was heartbroken watching Dean realize how much chemistry there was between Jess and Rory? It’s not easy seeing someone you are into hitting it off with someone else. But hopefully spending time with your favorite over-caffeinated Gilmores will help you forget about all of your worries. You can dream about what it would be like if you lived in Stars Hollow and how good a burger from Luke’s Diner really is.

8. Problem: You found out the person you’re into doesn’t want the same things

Solution: 13 Going On 30: Maybe the one you like is looking for different things. You are probably better moving on because you can’t force anyone to want the same things as you. Jenna wants nothing more than to be a desirable woman with a mature and attractive boyfriend. She shows that sometimes you have to be patient and open to other possibilities, and sometimes what you really need is right in front of you.

No matter what the situation is Netflix will always be there for you. Sometimes it helps to just know that someone else has experienced what you’re going through, and our favorite fictional characters have been through it all.

14 THINGS TO DO IF YOU’RE SINGLE THIS VALENTINE’S DAY

As soon as February hits, everyone starts thinking about Valentine’s Day. Some people detest it whether they are in a relationship or not, and others refer to it as Single’s Awareness Day. But if you aren't in a relationship, it is really like any other weekend night with your friends.

On this day it starts to seem like everywhere you look there is another couple.

The day might start off with a bit of cynicism.

But once the evening starts to settle in, you realize it's going to be a great night.

1. Have a Girls Night Out. Break out the cute clothes you got on impulse buys over winter break. It's the perfect occasion for a GNO.

2. Try New Recipes. Does anyone else pin everything recipe on Pinterest but never actually take the time to make them? Pick a theme or a type of food, and choose a few different recipes to try out with friends. You could make a whole meal out of it, or order takeout and just make desert!

3. Have a Party. You don't have to fill your apartment or house to have a good time. Invite some of your single friends over, and who knows by the end of the night someone might have found their Valentine.

4. Plan a Classy Dinner Party. Want an excuse to get all dressed up? Make it a formal affair. Have someone bring a side dish, someone else bring a salad, and break out the nice glasses at dinner.

5. Make a Movie Run. It's pretty tricky to see movies while you are on campus unless you know someone with a car. Now's the time you could catch up on some of the movies you have missed this year on Redbox. Or get your friends and roommates to round up their DVD collections, and plan out your movie marathon.

6. Spend Some Time With Ryan Gosling. See if you can get a collection of Gosling's best roles together. If you don't have a date, you might as well have someone to swoon over.

7.  Get a Group to Go Out to Dinner. Don't feel like making a meal? Plan a group dinner at nearby restaurant, or see if any of your friends have a car to open up your options. You might even want to make a reservation if you know how many people want to go.

8. Find an Event Around Campus. Check out the nearby venues to see if any of the bands you like are coming to town. Or maybe there is some events at popular places on campus or some student organizations that might be worth checking out.

9. Have a Gift Exchange. Instead of Secret Santa, plan a Secret Admirer's gift exchange with friends. Set a $5 or $10 limit, and treat each other this Valentine's Day.

10. Host a Girls Night In. Celebrate your singleness with a night filled with facials, food, and friends. Grab a few movies and your favorite nail polishes. Maybe even combine this with #2 to have snacks while you and your girls are relaxing.

11. Go to the Movies. If you are able to get off campus, check out the latest films with a large popcorn to pass around. Maybe you will even a group of cute single guys at the theater.

12. Go on a Scavenger Hunt. Ever seen the movie Sleepover? Those girls may have been graduating junior high, but that doesn't mean that idea is juvenile. Set your boundaries around campus, and come up with a list of things to find or accomplish. You could even have a battle of the sexes with your guy friends and create a little friendly competition.

13. Make Breakfast For Dinner. For some reason eating pancakes for dinner sounds more fun than eating them as an actual breakfast. Get your friends to pick up whipped cream and maybe even some chocolate chips and sprinkles. If breakfast is the most important meal of the day, you will be extra prepared for a fun night.

14. Attend Someone Else's Party. Just like any other weekend night, someone is hosting a party so you don't have to. Go over to a friends apartment or meet up with friends who have somewhere to go. You might even meet some of your friends' other single friends.

Valentine's Day might seem like a commercial holiday that highlights the fact that your love life is non-existent. But it doesn't have to be that bad! It is another night filled with possibilities. Don't write it off before the it even begins, because it might just be one of the best nights of the semester.

WHAT TO WATCH: NEW IN MUSIC

What to Watch: New in Music

Confession: I am a music junkie. I would listen to music while I slept if I could. Since I am pumped about getting to see Ingrid Michaelson tonight, I decided to share some of the great music I have discovered lately. These past few weeks have been golden with all of the great new music I have discovered. If you check out my updated about page, you will find Mat Kearney is one of my all time favorite artists. He hasn't put out anything in a while, but he is back with "Heartbeat." The music video was shot using a drone with one take. It's fantastic. Check it out below.

You might be over Taylor Swift's "Shake It Off", but you have to hear Walk Off the Earth's rendition of it. And if you don't watch the whole thing, make sure you watch at least until around 2:50. Besides being a fun cover, there is a little surprise that made me laugh. If you like that, check out their YouTube page.

And the wonderfully weird video of "Shut Up and Dance" from my favorite band Walk the Moon (*Note not the same group as above, which is Walk Off the Earth). The video uses animation, bright colors, and stylized lighting, alongside some great dancing. There's even an allusion to the classic "Say Anything" with John Cusack. It's such a fun song, if anything it will make you want to get up and dance with them.

Finally, since I am going to see this lovely lady tonight, check out "Afterlife" by Ingrid Michaelson. It is all about overcoming fears, and I love it!

What are your favorite videos lately? Do you have any new music recommendations?
P.S. If you haven't already, check out my updated about page.
