FRIDAY FASHION FAVORITES

Confession: I love dresses. All kinds. One of my favorite parts of summer is being able to wear dresses pretty much whenever I feel like it. On the crazy hot days that I still have to dress nice for work, I feel bad for the guys in slacks and button ups, because wearing a dress makes it much more bearable.

Unfortunately, it's hard to find an occasion to wear a fancier dress sometimes. I haven't been to many weddings or anything. I never did go to prom. And usually it's more appropriate to wear jeans and cute top than a classy dress when hanging out with my friends.

For now, I'll just keep browsing Aisle Style's website, waiting for the perfect event to wear a fancy dress to come along.

Here are some of my favorites this week:

Wedding Dresses

I think it's pretty much protocol to have a Wedding Pinterest board these days, isn't it? Even though a wedding is something I won't be planning for a long, long time, I still like browsing dresses and decorations. This dress is absolutely gorgeous. I've known for a while that I don't want anything to lavish. This one is simple and elegant, and I love the part over her shoulders. Aisle Style has so many beautiful wedding dresses.

Cocktail Dresses

Can one ever own enough cocktail dresses? I like this one, because it adds a little flavor to the classic LBD. The lace and one shoulder definitely spice it up.

Prom Dresses

Like I said, I never actually went to prom, but I always loved looking at prom dresses! Every once in a while, I will regret turning down my offer to prom Senior year, but mostly because I just wanted an excuse to wear a pretty dress. If I had gone, I would have been really tempted by a red dress like this one. I think there is something so fierce about red dresses, so this one definitely caught my eye.

What are some of your Friday favorites?

Imagine: A World With More Dreamers

Recently I've been going through a mellow music phase. Mat Kearney has been there for me through otherwise boring car rides, getting reading in the morning, and times of pure boredom. It turns out I love him. A lot. The new song by Train makes me really break out this beautiful voice I've been hiding from the world. (Just kidding but seriously its one to sing to.) It's called "Drive By," and he has this line about being a "shy guy" that drives me crazy— in the it's so insanely adorable kind of way.

But enough of that cutesy stuff that makes teenage girls squeal. Matt Nathanson has this song called “Modern Love.” Basically, he says this modern love isn’t enough for him. My favorite line is “This Modern Love is a taco truck. You take the phone calls, I’ll take the silence.” Taco truck? Yeah, I’m in love with this guy.

I also have had a Beatles music craving lately. “Imagine” has been my favorite lately. I’ve decided that if I had could meet anyone dead or alive I would meet John Lennon. Someday, I’ll probably write an essay about it. But for now, I’ll leave you with a few obvious reasons I would like to meet him:
  1. The Beatles are by far the best band of all times—this is not debatable.
  2. He wrote and sang some of the most incredible songs in history.
  3. He’s a dreamer.

Music is an escape unlike anything else. Writing is an escape in and of itself, but music triggers different feelings and emotions. Instead of searching for the words to describe what we are thinking and feeling, music offers us words and melodies to guide us in finding the same thing. As I’ve mentioned, I’m a dreamer, and through the sweet melodies of Imagine or the upbeat tempo of a Modern Love song, I can go anywhere I want.

Serendipity? I think so...

Oh hey there, Serendipity. Fancy meeting you here.

I guess you could say I'm nervous aprehensive about tomorrow. I'm not really sure... But seeing as I'm pretty into signs and this whole fortunate accident thing: this was a happy discovery.

An Unnatural Disaster

With a little luck and a garbage bag, you might be able to sort through the mess that is currently the Shiff’s counter. Fortunately, I can assure you we do not normally live like this. My dad’s girlfriend wouldn’t allow it. Our house is usually clean in ways that most people didn’t even know possible because we are expected to have it clean at all times. I was asked to clean my room for the first time since probably fifth grade when I didn’t put away some of clothes one time. Yeah, so you can imagine my surprise when I discovered our counter this morning. But it also tells me something: there was a series of odd events that led up to this unnatural disaster.
I don’t know about you, but my eye automatically goes to the red, open bag of skittles somehow sitting comfortably in the middle. Last night my family went to see the movie that received 4% on Rotten Tomatoes, Jack and Jill, with Adam Sandler x2. So I can imagine this is where the skittles came from, but who left them here? Well, seeing as my dad’s girlfriend is the cleanest of us, it’s not likely that it was her. And two nine-year-olds probably would have gotten a lot farther with them before they got caught. Thus, my dad is most likely the culprit. But finders keepers, losers weepers right? What a fortunate discovery.
And what about those tickets? What are they for? Well my guess is that these tickets aren’t sitting there by accident, seeing as they are getting used tonight. Since my dad’s girlfriend’s purse is sitting near them, she probably left them so that we don’t forget them for Jingle Ball tonight. And my keys aren’t much of discovery.  But I’m slightly curious as to why there is a book… I mean it’s sitting next to the coffee pot. And well, maybe I’m the only one who does this, but sometimes stuff spills. It seems like a careless place to leave such a fragile item. If I had to take a guess, Madelyn left it there. She is my dad’s girl friend’s daughter and a more than careless nine-year-old. She probably left it with no thought at all, as she wandered off to comb her American girl doll’s hair.
Most people might not see my counter as a regular gold mine. But considering everything there holds some kind of value to our family, I’d say these are pretty fortunate discoveries. Even if these items were left there by mere chance.
